There are very mixed feelings on this newish Highland Park release. Some are upset with the lack of an age statement, some find the profile too heavily sherried, but the whisky also has its fans. Drop into KWM to sample that latest Orkadian single malt from Highland Park!

Nose: lots of dark fruit, very nutty, clean crisp smoke, some Dutch licorice and emerging peated malt; a touch of coffee bean, some classic Christmas cake notes and smooth leather.
Palate: big honey, very nutty, leathery with damp tobacco, minty dark chocolate big salty smoke and some heathery peat; some chewy malt, burnt raisins, bacon wrapped dates and dried figs.
Finish: long coating and sherried with more dark smoke and fading honey.

Highland Park, the northernmost of Scotland's distilleries, dates back to 1798. Definitely an island style with typical smokiness, but with elements of a classic single malt that include a smoothness, roundness and heather-honey accent all its own. Very capable of developing to great ages, the distillery is now making available some older vintages which display considerable depth and richness.

Opened up to the Alberta market in early 2017, this is a great value bottling of Highland Park. The whisky has been matured in American oak and is bottled at 40%. We are looking forward to the opportunity to try it!
