Only 12 bottles of this rare single cask, Coffey Malt Japanese whisky have come to Canada, all of them exclusive to KWM. 57% after maturing in a single cask, #103356, this is a malt whisky, but distilled in in a column (AKA coffey or continuous) still. Nikka's Coffey Malt is principally produced for blending, though they do offer it as a stand alone whisky. The two big Japanese distillers, Suntory and Nikka, both own two malt distilleries and a grain distillery. They need to be self sufficient in creating their blends, so both companies produce a variety of whiskies at each of their distilleries.

Andrew's Tasting Note:

"Nose: honeyed and nutty with loads of malt, caramel, juicy orange and cantaloupe; dunnage warehouse, wet leaf litter and barley sugars; some gelatin candies (wine gums) and red berry fruits; Manukah honey and candied nuts round things out.

Palate: round, richc chewy, fruity and very sweet; loads more caramel, some musty-earthy oak and dunnage notes with more wet leaves; the toasted oak is abundant along with spices and chocolate coffee beans; candied orange, some licorice and decadent spices develop; overall it is big and layered; some late marzipan and almond paste.

Finish: long and decadent; more juicy malt, sugars, spices and winegums; very vibrant and pleasant."
