Guillermo García Lamadrid began this project in 2004 by opening the door to wine growing in Argentina, from the lands of Agrelo in Luján de Cuyo, one of the first regions in Argentina to embrace Malbec. He partnered with winemaker Pablo Durigutti to produce a range of wines that run the gamut from good value to single vineyard examples from their oldest vineyard sites.

Excellent nose of spice box, mineral, black cherry, and blueberry. Medium to full-bodied, it has excellent richness and depth, succulent fruit, and superior length, considering the price. Goes well with grilled meats and roasts.

Lamadrid’s mission is to be the best representation of the Agrelo terroir and their philosophy is “Wine Is Made In The Vineyard, Let The Terroir Speak For Itself.” Lamadrid owns three vineyards in Agrelo: Finca La Matilde (planted 1929), Finca Lamadrid (1973), and Finca La Suiza (2004). Their wines are all estate-grown from one of these single vineyards, and follow organic and sustainable farming practices and are unfiltered.

Their childhood and their home were always connected to a sensorial world, with aromas, ingredients and flavours that, over time, motivated them to choose the path to become enologists. Great value and a Kensington Wine Market exclusive! Brought to Argentina in the 19th century by Italian immigrants, Bonarda is the most widely planted red grape variety in Argentina. Also known as Charbono, Corbeau or Douce Noire, the grape was historically grown in the Savoie region in the French Alps. DNA analysis has proven that the Argentina Bonarda is in fact not related to the Italian grape Bonarda di Chieri and Bonarda del Monferrato from Piedmont. The grape produces a light, fruity wine that is sometimes served chilled. The Durigutti brothers, Hector and Pablo, have made an exceptional example of this little-known variety.

From one of the rock stars of the Argentine wine scene! With 18 months in new oak barrels, this 100% Malbec from Lujan de Cuyo will certainly make its presence felt in your mouth. Smoky, toasty, and minty aromas fill the air, but as this wine opens up, we find well-developed red and black fruits like black cherry and raspberry. Always garners high marks from the wine critics, and our customers love it, too.

Matilde is the flagship wine of this up-and-coming Argentine venture and precious little is produced. Sourced from the same estate vineyard with vines dating back to 1929, Matilde spends 24 months in new French oak. This loaded effort displays more obvious (but well-integrated) oak. This is an unctuous and silky red with a long finish. In the nose, aromas of vanilla, white chocolate, mocha, and tobacco combine with ripened fruit, blackcurrant, and plum. Food pairings? Big red meats!
