We are not sure where this came from, it was bottled more than 10 years ago... A single cask of Springbank, distilled in 1993 and bottled at 50% after maturing in a Refill Hogshead DL: Ref: 4704. Only 12 bottles coming to KWM! The nose on this is spectacular, and the palate no slouch!
Andrew's Tasting Note
Nose: waxy, buttery and doughy; bread and butter pudding, beeswax and dulce de leche; orange and green mango; papaya, guava and agave syrup.
Palate: still doughy, silky and buttery with a waxy, oily, coating body; soft peat smoke, delicately polished oak and savroury subtly salted caramel; underneath some sharper smoke notes but also citrus and light tropical fruits; more dulce de leche and bread and butter pudding.
Finish: light but coating, the smoke firms up with a hint of salt; creamy with fading sweet fruits.
Comment: this is somewhat naked Springbank, delicately matured in Re-fill oak; and I think a good example of how some whiskies improve in bottle; it has oxidized beautifully; just be careful with the cork...
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: pine sawdust with salty freshness and freshly varnished boats.
Palate: carries sweet wood quality with spiced orange and cloves.
Finish: long and still sweet with wood tanginess lingering.
