Dalmore, the flagship malt for Whyte & Mackay was founded near the village of Alness on the Firth of Crmarty in 1839. The distillery was closed during much of WWI when the Admiralty requisitioned the factory for the production of mines. The nearby Yankee Pier was built by the USN for the purpose of loading and unloading supplies. Dalmore also holds the record for the most expensive bottle of whisky ever sold: �25,877.50 for the Dalmore 62Yr.
