Distiller's Tasting Note
Nose: Aroma: Fresh tobacco leaf - then sweet with a hint of caramelized sugars, green tea and toasted almonds.
Taste: A floral freshness with sweet barley sugar at first - this gently ebbs to reveal a tangerine zestiness. The palate is left alive and refreshed.
Finish: A long, lingering and well-balanced dram that invigorates the mouth.
Auchentoshan was founded by Irish refugees of the patato famine in 1825. Built on the outskirts of Glasgow, it is one of the last active distilleries in the Lowlands, and the only one in Scotland which continues to triple distill full-time. Triple distillation further refines the spirit, making it lighter, fresher and cleaner. This make Auchentoshan one of the softest malt whiskies in Scotland. Auchentoshan 18 Year was a new release in 2008, and is part of the new core range of Auchentoshan single malts. Matured in 100% American Oak, the whisky is very fresh, sweet and herbal with strong hints of citrus and almond.

Glenkinchie has long been known as "The Edinburgh Malt", though that looks set to change in very short order, as the Holyrood Distillery comes online in the heart of Scotland's capital. But nicknames aside, Glenkinchie really should need little in the way of introduction. It has become one of the foremost examples of what we consider the 'typical' Lowlands style: light, floral, elegant.

Nose: Aromatic, vanilla, cut flowers and beneath, a clean, toasty note. Increasingly sweet and creamy, with fresh citrus, lemon cheesecake.
Palate: Crisp mid-palate then butter icing, lemon cheesecake and freesias.
Finish: Herbal and drying, a little like potpourri.
