In 1876 the Watt family entered a horse named "The Tyrconnell" in the 1876 "National Produce Stakes", and against enormous odds of 100:1 it won. In honour of this victory they named a whisky from their distillery in its honour. The Watt distillery has since closed, but the whisky is still made in the same style by Cooley distillery.

Tyrconnell is one of Ireland's iconic whisky brands, named for the winning horse in the 1876 National Produce Stakes. This whisky matured in sherry casks is caramelized and rich with a soft smooth finish.
