North of Scotland was founded in 1958 not far from Cambus distillery in the old Knox's Forth Brewery; the brewery itself dates back to 1786. Initially it was intended that the distillery would produce malt whisky from its modified coffee stills, but after 2 years the it was converted to a grain distillery. The distillery was closed in 1980 and dismantled in 1993. ml
