This "Distillery Label" bottling by Gordon & MacPhail has been bottled at 43% after maturing in Refill Sherry casks. Mortlach is a curious distillery, with a unique 2.5 times distillation technique that produces a very complex and "meaty" spirit. Much sought after by blenders it was until recently, it was only occassionally bottled as a single malt by independent bottlers like Gordon & MacPhail. Until the launch of Mortlach's new range, these "Mortlach Distillery Label Bottlings" by Gordon & MacPhail were the closest thing to an official bottling.

Andrew's Tasting Note

Nose: a touch of  musty European oak, faintly meaty, with wet leaf litter, soft leather with some silky vanillians, pear drops and some candied ginger; honeyed with canned peaches.

Palate: a touch richer, nuttier and spicier than expected; more pear, peach and some cooked honey; cherries, more candied ginger even some Maroccan marmalade.

Finish: warming with spices, some drying leather and fading fruits.
