Considered by most aficianados as the 'royalty' of the malt whisky world, the original 'Chateau' distillery stands today, near Craigellachie, and is open to visitors world-wide. The character of Macallan has traditionally stemmed from its use of the expensive 'Golden Promise' barley variety. Its richness is also enhanced by the use of small stills and for its loyalty to sherry aging.
