This Kirsch is made in Germany by the Schladerer Distillery, which has been operated by the Schladerer family for over 175 Years. It is made with cherries from the Black Forest. 42% ABV.

"Our native sweet cherries come from prime locations in the Black Forest, and include the time-honored varieties Dollenseppler, Schwarze Schüttler and Benjaminler. The highly aromatic cherry bouquet, combined with almond-like nuances, is accentuated by light aromas of dark chocolate. The palate will savor the lingering rich cherry finish for a long time."

Though this is not the original Maraschino Liqueur, this was created by Girolamo Luxardo back in 1821. For a long time the city of Zadar, within what is now Croatia, was the main production hub for Maraschino liqueur. This changed during World War II, with the rise to power of Tito in Yugoslavia. In 1945, Luxardo's liqueur factory and headquarters moved from Zadar where it was founded to Torreglia in Italy.

"When Luxardo marasca cherries are harvested at the beginning of every summer, they are put in alcoholic infusion in larch-wood vats together with some leaves and branches of the same trees for up to three years. When ready, both the liquid and the solid parts are distilled in traditional copper pot stills, separating the heart from heads and tails. Only the heart of the distillate is then allowed to mature in ash-wood vats. The last process consists in transforming the distillate in liqueur by adding a simple syrup of water and sugar lowering the ABV to 32%."
