Courvoisier was created in the early 1800s by two friends and businessmen who started as traders for the best Cognacs in the region, and then decided to create their own. (Emmanuel Courvoisier was one of those men.) As it has been since the early 1800s, Courvoisier is made in the town of Jarnac, in Charente, France. It was the favourite Cognac of Napoleon Bonaparte - in fact, the place where Courvoisier is made has a museum about Cognac, which also holds a few Napoleon momentos, including a lock of his hair, a hat and coat.
