Like the Octomore 17.1, 17.2 is made with Scottish Concerto barley harvested in 2019, peated to 81ppm, and distilled in 2020. The main difference is that 17.2 was matured 4 years in second-fill French oak that held Californian red wine, and then bourbon before Octomore. The whisky was then finished in first-fill port barriques. 59.5%

Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Opens with ripe red fruits and soft, jammy sweetness suggestive of late-harvest berries and stone fruit jam. Raspberry and blackcurrant preserve and florals redolent of Turkish Delight mingle with toasted oak, clove and aniseed spice. The smoke is dry - wood-fired rather than phenolic, like smouldering embers. Hints of barley flour, fresh linen, leather and coastal iodine bring freshness and structure, with coconut and ginger warmth developing in the glass.
Palate: Supple and viscous, immediately coating the mouth in wine-poached berries and spiced fruits. Strawberry, blackberry and cassis are followed by barley sugars and dark syrup sweetness. Peat smoke builds steadily, peppery and earthy, alongside lemon zest and lime oils that brighten the palate. Oak tannins and gentle warmth lend depth and balance.
Finish: Long and luxurious. Raisins, toasted oak and sweet malt fade gradually into dry, maritime salt and char. As the fruit recedes, a distinct Octomore signature remains — persistent peat smoke and soft spice linger on irresistibly.

This 5 year old Octomore was distilled in 2019, from a 2018 harvest, peated to 101.4ppm, and bottled after 5 years in ex-Bourbon casks at 59.3%.

"16.1 is crafted using 100% Scottish Mainland Concerto Barley, malted to 101.4 PPM and aged in cask for 5 years, with an ABV of 59.3%. This elegant liquid is matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, bringing forth intense peat smoke with surprising delicacy. Salted caramel, honeyed melon and apricot lead into chocolate and coconut, accompanied by a soft wave of earthy minerality and lingering smoke."

The Octomore 16.2 was made from the same parcel of malt as 16.1, peated to 101.4ppm, but differs in its maturation: "Oloroso and Bordeaux casks, recasked into Madeira and Moscatel for final year of maturation." 2019 vintage, 5 years of age, and 58.1% ABV.
