Named in honour of the Evans Family - the original owners of Shelter Point Distillery - this release was finished in casks that previously held Port-style fortified wine made by Burrowing Owl. The result is bottled at 46%.

"This single malt release, finished in casks used in the making of a port-style fortified wine here in British Columbia. While visiting The Burrowing Owl Estate Winery in 2024 we got to try the Coruja (Portugese for Owl) and were immediately impressed with its quality and uniqueness. The Coruja is matured in barrels using a solera system, having used Port Pipes from Europe in the past we knew right away that we wanted to finish a whisky in one of these barrels."

"On the nose a wave of fruit breaks over you, deep, rich berries topped off with a hint of tropical notes. An undertow of clove brings a whisper of mulled wine. On the palate there are notes of orange and almond, with a butterscotch sweetness underpinned by baking spices. The finish is long, strawberries with black pepper, dark chocolate fudge with a hint of salt, sage and oregano."

Located on a farm halfway between Comox and Campbell River on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Shelter point has been laying down spirit in casks to eventually become whisky since June of 2011. They grow and harvest much of the barley used from their own farm.
Patrick Evans is a third-generation farmer whose family has been farming in the Comox Valley of British Columbia since the turn of the 20th Century. He is now joined in the business by at least one of his three daughters and his son-in-law Jacob. Patrick purchased the land that is now Shelter Point Farm and Distillery in 2005. Situated along the coast of Vancouver Island where the Oyster River meets the sea, it was formerly a University of British Columbia research farm with a large dairy barn. That dairy barn now serves as cask warehousing and barley storage.
Construction on the distillery began in 2009, with the first spirit running in 2011. As with many other new and small-scale distilleries, white spirits provided some cash flow until the first whiskies were ready for sale. The first single malt, a 5-year-old, was released late in 2016. It was a big hit.
In a somewhat backwards move compared to other craft distilleries that have popped up in the time since Shelter Point began making whisky, the distillery just started releasing their own Shelter Point Gin in the summer of 2019.
Consistent distillation and constant experimentation are to be the name of the game for Shelter Point Distillery. They have been releasing very good single malt whisky since 2016, and the lineup has grown to include limited batches in different styles since then including both wine cask finishes and peated cask finishes among others. There always seems to be something exciting going on at Shelter Point, and we feel very fortunate to get as many of their releases as we do at Kensington Wine Market.

One of our favourite releases from Shelter Point, the Smoke Point is a vatting of single malts matured in casks smoked with driftwood from the distillery's coast. 53%.

The first core release from the Maligne Range, Tekarra is an unapologetically Canadian whisky, made partially from an Imperial Porter mashbill with Demerara sugar, matured in First Fill ex-Bourbon and Virgin American Oak casks before bottling at 48%.
The whisky was distilled at Last Best Brewing & Distilling in Calgary, though in time the brand's spiritual home will be the Maligne Distillery under construction in Jasper.

"Named after Mount Tekarra in Jasper National Park, this is a whisky of unique depth, with a bold 48% abv. It features a unique grain bill inspired by Imperial Porter (a beer style) that uses a masterful selection of malts - superior pale, crystal, dark crystal, chocolate, and midnight wheat. Rooted in the Canadian one-eleventh rule, Tekarra artfully combines malted barley and the unique addition of Demerara, creating a cascade of flavours."

Batch 1 of Roper's Hold 20-Year-Old has been released by Bryce Parsons and True Wild Distillery. For this batch, the whisky was originally produced at one of the larger distilleries in Southern Alberta. The grain makeup is 90%+ Rye and the rest malted barley - something that the mystery distillery is not typically known for. The whisky has been finished in wine casks sourced from the Okanagan Valley.
Bottled at 47% ABV.
