750 mlFormerly known as Tocai Friulano, this native grape is the region’s flagship white variety. Wines of Friulano are known for their floral and fruity aromas, with notes of almond leading to a slightly tart finish. On the nose there are aromas of lemon, sweet florals, lime, honeysuckle and bright citrus. The palate burst with flavors of citrus, snappy green apple, almonds, and lime peel with racy acidity and a lingering finish. Their winemaker, Erika Barbieri, stated, “I think this wine is the most representative wine of the cellar. It is the only wine that we make in only stainless steel tank.” Just delicious.

While Albariño is the signature white wine for Galicia, Godello is quietly catching up. For this wine, the white Godello grapes are harvested manually in a single day. When they reach the winery, after destemming, the must is pressed and remains cold for 24 hours. After this process, they transfer the must to 225, 500 and 700-litre barrels, in which fermentation takes place and subsequent aging over the course of a year. The barrels are emptied for bottling five days before the next harvest.

As early as 1752, the ancestors of the (Raul) Pérez family were vine growers in Valtuille, making wine from some of the plots that today form part of the winery. There's not a lot of Chardonnay planted in Tuscany, being a French transplant and all, but this example from one of our favourite Tuscan producers makes you wonder why they don't plant more. While this organic wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation, it's kept on the lees for an extended period for added complexity. Expect a lively and fresh white wine that can pair with goat cheese, arugula pizza, salads, or all on its own on a summer day when you need a lift!
