"We don’t usually dabble in blends. Angus will happily remind anyone that he’s an “out and proud malt snob” nine days out of ten. But every now and then, fate drops something into your lap that’s too good to ignore. In this case, it was a tiny parcel of very old, very low-strength North of Scotland grain whisky from 1973. The kind of spirit that practically begs to be given a stage rather than left gathering dust. We married it with sherry-matured blended malt, then folded in a few venerable Speyside malts (peated and unpeated) before giving the whole lot over a year’s rest in a refill sherry hogshead. The result was bottled at a judicious 53%, a few degrees down for balance and drinkability. For the label, there was only one choice: Charlie MacLean. The original champion of blended Scotch, whisky legend, friend, and inspiration. If anyone deserves to front our first foray into blends, it’s him. This isn’t just a blend, it’s a love letter to the category from a bunch of supposed malt snobs. And if you’re going to break your own rules, you might as well do it properly."

"This beautiful old style malt whisky was blended from only the finest and scarcest of Scottish pure pot-distilled malt whiskies. Great makes such as Downess, Parkwhore. St. Spankdalene, Convalscore, Inverlovin', North Pork, and Ladybum all feature in this exceptional recipe, which has been a closely guarded secret since last month, passed down from Ops team to warehouse by email thread, just as our forefathers did in their day. It contains only the purest malt whiskies, matured in exquisite sherrywood and refill casks. Absolutely no deleterious agents of any kind have been added."

"This was a parcel of sherry butts 'filled' in 2001. But we don't know the precise mix of components, only that it was originally intended to be for Famous Grouse. The constituent malts are very likely Macallan, Highland Park and Tamdhu. I was told that some parts of the mix date back to 1975, but we've no documentation to confirm that. It would explain the very old school sherry matured character of those casks though, and the low cask strength ABVs, all circa 45%."
