"A Bira is an all night ritual celebrated by our people, the Shona, in which members of an extended family call upon ancestral spirits for guidance and intercession. The summoned spirits possess spirit medium(s) within the family, and they provide the means with which the living communicate with God.
These events are festive, there is food and drink, as well as music and dancing. As we get spiritual when we drink, sometimes we dance, sing and feast, it seemed fitting to name our brand as we did."
Distilled from sugar cane juice, this 6yr old column still rum is aged in ex-Cognac casks in Europe. It was distilled in March 2017 at Poisson distillery in Marie-Galante, Guadeloupe.
Nose: Dank ,citron, candy floss, a bit of herbaceous/ succulent…surprisingly fruity
Taste: A touch of caramel sweetness on the lips, followed by briny, herbal notes. The texture is quite oily, with gentle heat on the roof of the mouth. Flavors of eucalyptus, menthol, oak, anise, and a hint of cocoa emerge, without the sharp “highs” sometimes found in cane juice rums. Finishes exceptionally long.
