"Matured by our Master Blender in a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and casks seasoned with the finest oloroso sherry, cream sherry and ruby port to elevate Redbreast’s Single Pot Still Whiskey to new heights. Bursting with berry fruit aromas, hazelnut chocolate tones, and caramelised stone fruit sweetness, our latest addition introduces a captivating array of new flavours that complement that signature Redbreast taste."
750 mlAndrew's Tasting Note
Nose: thick, dark, and exotic, with a firm grain note and a Cognac/rum edge; Tootsie Roll, Eatmore, and honey-garlic beef jerky; blackberry, Saskatoon, and blueberry jams; milk chocolate, firm old leather, and decadent spice.
Palate: still thick, dark, and rather exotic with that grain note which is unique to single pot still whiskies; there is still something of an old rum/Cognac vibe here, possibly from the smorgasboard of casks; more dark berry fruit jams; the Eatmore and Tootsie Roll notes are still there, the jerky less so; firm old leather, dark milk chocolate, and marmite.
Finish: surprisingly thin, winey, and short; it starts of promissing, but fades quickly.
Comment: I had such high hopes here, they were likely never going to be met; it's good, but far from great; in my opinion too much cask finishing Tom Foolery... less would have been more; there is an elegant old spirit hiding just below the surface, smothered by sherry and port casks; to quote Kunu (aka Paul Rudd) "do less!"
Producer Tasting Note
Nose: Delectable berry fruit aromas of ripe blackcurrants and raspberries accompanied by sugar glazed cherries and dried fig. Indulgent tones of hazelnut chocolate and caramelised stone fruits with warming and fragrant notes of toasted almonds and cinnamon, nestled alongside polished oak and worn leather.
Taste: Full-bodied and rounded, with the oak tannins complementing the decadent sweetness of sun-kissed grapes and autumnal fruits. Vibrant spices of freshly peeled ginger and hints of liquorice weave amongst the wine seasoned oak influences of dried fruits, dark berries and orange peel.
Finish: Rich and lasting. The pot still spices, fruit and oak slowly fade harmoniously, showcasing the balance of this wonderfully complex whiskey.
