"Freshness is the best adjective for this vintage which is very balanced. The attack in the mouth is synonymous of firmness and power. It has a great ageing capacity."

"This vintage is a nice surprise: a beautiful rich colour, a fine nose full of freshness and a delicious soft palate, lifted by great complexity." Perrin Family

"Ruby-red. Powerful red and dark berry aromas verge on liqueur-like but are enlivened by zesty mineral and anise accents. Lush, supple and sweet, with deep raspberry and cherry flavors, fine-grained tannins and complicating herb and smoked meat tones. Very smooth on the finish, which is sappy, deep in cherry flavor and impressively long." Vinous

94/100 - Showing brilliantly, with a deep, rich and layered profile, the straight 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape has gorgeous black cherry, earth, underbrush and background meatiness that gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated and pure feel on the palate. – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate (Feb. 2014)

It is unquestionable that Chateau du Beaucastel is one of the most influential and probably most acclaimed estates in Chateauneuf du Pape(or for all of France for that matter). It is also the oldest in the region with a reputation for producing some of the most age worthy wines in the appellation.

The estate originally dates back to 1549 when "Noble Pierre de Beaucastel" a protestant, bought a barn, some land and later built a manor house at the location of today's Beaucastel. In 1909 Beaucastel was acquired by Pierre Tramier. They lived off sheep raising, cherries and olives. Pierre went off to an oenology school in Beaune to learn about wine, and returned to the estate in 1925. The replanting of the estate was undertaken and Beaucastel was reborn. The modern era of Chateau du Beaucastel emerged.

Chateau du Beaucastel has always been on the outside of mainstream Chateauneufs given it’s the only estate in the appellation to have all 13 varieties planted and used in their wines. Even before organic viticulture was envisaged Beaucastel practiced this now inherent ideology. Organic certification was awarded in 1950 and biodynamics in 1974. The ultimate pioneer for these farming ideologies and one they believe really enhances the soil characteristics.
