No blend, this one; instead, a blended malt. The difference, of course, being one of character and complexity. Malt whisky is synonymous with richness of flavour, whereas blends tend to be a little more...shallow. That's not to suggest that there aren't good and bad versions of both, however. And while The Islay Boys may have made their name with the Flatnose blend, it's the blended malt where things get more interesting, if we're being honest. Named for Ketill Björnsson, aka Flatnose, a 9th century Norse king who 'may' have at one point ruled over the Kingdom of Dál Riata, this whisky has as much personality as a marauding Viking. Yes...in a good way! Islay malt fiends should find something here that they can really get their teeth into.
This one is lightly peated with notes of citrus and honey to round things out. The 46% abv bottling strength is also appreciated.
