Underrated, dry and crisp French Sparkling wine made from high-altitude vineyards in the Valle d'Aoste
Cave Mont Blanc is located in Morgex, Val D'Aosta, Italy. Created in 1983 by the “Association des Viticulteurs” with the aim of developing the Valdostan viticulture and making its products known to a wider audience. The cultivation area extends between Morgex and La Salle, and the vineyards reach 1200 meters above sea level making them the highest in Europe. The height of these vineyards meant that even the phylloxera louse, which at the end of the 19th century destroyed most of the vineyards of Europe, could not survive the altitude. In these vineyards, the original vines are planted without grafting, almost exclusively from the indigenous Prié Blanc grape.
750 mlThis wine is one of our favourite alternatives to Champagne. It's produced entirely from Priè Blanc with the first fermentation taking place in large barrels of larch and oak and along with stainless steel, It sees a traditional refermentation in the bottle. Degorgement is typically done after 20 months in bottle. The colour is a pale straw yellow followed by aromas of apple and hawthorne followed by hints of almond and resin. On the palate, it's fresh and minerally with notes of stone fruits, cedar and white figs.
